Major Declaration

JI offers programs in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Although students are asked to declare one of the two programs as their major when they apply for JI, they may choose to switch majors in the future. Irrespective of the intended major, all undergraduate students take the same core courses in the first two semesters. Students are required to declare majors in the Spring semester of their sophomore year. To be qualified for declaring a major, students must have completed the first year level Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Introduction to Engineering and Introduction to Computer & Programming with satisfactory grades and a cumulated GPA specified by individual programs. Mechanical Engineering (ME) The Mechanical Engineering (ME) major at the Joint Institute is designed to match the course progression and standards of the Mechanical Engineering department at UM’s College of Engineering. Lab resources, facilities support and some core training is provided by the outstanding ME School of SJTU. Teaching Objectives After graduation you will be qualified senior and comprehensive engineering technicians in the areas of production technology and research, engineering construction, industrial enterprises trade, and administrative management and training and so forth. Main Courses Advanced Mathematics, Elementary Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, College Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Foundation of Materials Engineering, Engineering Drawing, Foundation of Mechanical Designing, Electrotechnics & Electronic Techniques, Computer Program Design, and Control Engineering, Advanced Mathematics, Elementary Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, College Physics Internship Metalworking, mechanical drawing, mechanical design, electrical engineering and electronics practice, computer measurement and control technology of comprehensive practice, professional practice, professional design, graduation design etc. Degree Awarded Bachelor Degree of Engineering. Future Career After graduation you can be comprehensive senior engineers to design mechatronics system, do manufacture or develop new technology in the enterprises or research institute.

4. Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.

7. English proficiency test certificate

8. 1000 words essay

9. Financial support statement from your sponsor

10. SAT score

Authorized Copy of SAT score and Math must be above 700 marks.
