The opening ceremony of the Master Program in Information and Communication Engineering Successfully Held in HUST



The opening ceremony of the Master Program in Information and Communication Engineering was held on Nov. 17. Vice President Prof. Chen Jianguo and 106 students from 16 countries attended the ceremony online and offline in Huazhong University of Science and Technology


Chen Jianguo pointed out that this year marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of the university and 60th anniversary of HUST’s launching of international student education. Since undertaking the MOFCOM program in 2017, the university has trained 170 professionals in the field of information and communication engineering for 42 countries. They applied the knowledge and skill learned at HUST to the development of their own countries, and promote the people to people bond between China and Belt and Road countries. He hoped that the new students could study hard, deepen their understanding of Chinese path to modernization, and contribute their talents to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.


Prof. Qiu Caiming, Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Communications, said that EIC has implemented a comprehensive and internationally competitive English teaching system and organized a high-level faculty team, which committed to cultivating practice-oriented and interdisciplinary talents in the field of electronic information and communication.


JOHN ROBERT KINABO, the Information Communication Technology Officer of LUDEWA Provincial Parliament of Tanzania, and MOFCOM 2021 batch, first took this opportunity to express his sincere congratulations and best wishes to the 70th anniversary of HUST. He hoped that the new students would cherish the university’s first-class teaching resources and become the new force in the field of information and communication engineering of their countries upon graduation.


HARRISON SHONIWA MASENDU from Zimbabwe gave the speech as the representative of the new students. He expressed his gratitude to the MOFCOM program and Chinese government's assistance to developing countries in the field of education. He wished that all the new students could expand their professional knowledge at HUST, learn from China's development practices, and contribute their youth to the construction of a civilized and harmonious global community.


Prof. Zhou Liping, Dean of the School of International Education, made a concluding speech. Zhou Liping said that the Global Development Strategy is one of the future key strategies of HUST. International student cultivation and MOFCOM program are important to implementing this strategy. Together with the university, SIE will continue to provide support for international students. Zhou Liping encouraged all international students to make achievements in HUST.



Wei Xiaoyun, Vice Director of the Talent Development Office of the Graduate School, Ma Rong, CPC  Secretary of the School of International Education, Zhao Xiaofeng, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, Huang Chao, Director of the International Student Office, Zheng Xiaojian, CPC  Secretary of the School of Electronic Information and Communications, Chen Shiying , Vice CPC Secretary of the School of Electronic Information and Communications, Ge Xiaohu, Vice Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Communications, and faculty representatives, Associate Professor Yang Peng and Liao Zhenyu attended the opening ceremony. Gao Xiang, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, hosted the ceremony.
