It belongs to the medical category of majors, with a study period of 5 years, and confers a Bachelor of Medicine degree. This major originated from the combination of ophthalmology and optometry, aiming to address the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and visual health issues. Currently, it is offered in many medical colleges and universities in China, such as Wenzhou Medical University, Tianjin Medical University, and Capital Medical University.

Core features:

It is necessary to master both basic and clinical medical knowledge (such as the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic diseases), as well as be proficient in optometry theories (such as refractive error correction and visual function assessment).

Emphasize practical operation and stress the cultivation of skills such as ophthalmic examination, optometry and spectacle fitting, and visual rehabilitation.

High school graduation or above; Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens. Obey laws and regulations, be diligent and eager to learn, have excellent academic performance, good conduct, be willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as the school rules and regulations of Shantou University, be friendly to China, and be physically and mentally healthy. 

For students applying for programs taught in Chinese, except for the major of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, all other majors require a score of at least level 4 or above in the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK). Students who have completed their secondary school studies in Chinese can apply for exemption from submitting this certificate. Students applying for all-English-taught programs have no such requirement. Students whose Chinese proficiency does not meet the standard can apply to our school for Chinese language study first.
