Pathophysiology: It studies the functional and metabolic disorder mechanisms of diseases (such as the abnormal pumping function of the heart during heart failure and the imbalance of blood sugar regulation in diabetes), with a focus on explaining the pathological processes of diseases at the molecular and cellular levels.

Disciplinary attributes: It belongs to the first-level discipline of basic medicine and serves as a bridge discipline connecting basic medicine and clinical medicine.
