Discipline Positioning and Connotation: Pathology: It studies the morphological changes of diseases (such as the pathological changes of cells, tissues, and organs), and reveals the occurrence and development patterns of diseases through microscopic observation of pathological sections (such as the atypia of tumor cells and the exudation characteristics of inflammatory tissues).
Pathophysiology: It studies the functional and metabolic disorder mechanisms of diseases (such as the abnormal pumping function of the heart during heart failure and the imbalance of blood sugar regulation in diabetes), with a focus on explaining the pathological processes of diseases at the molecular and cellular levels.
Disciplinary attributes: It belongs to the first-level discipline of basic medicine and serves as a bridge discipline connecting basic medicine and clinical medicine. For example: Observe the morphological characteristics of liver cancer tissues through pathology, and analyze the metabolic reprogramming mechanism of liver cancer cells in combination with pathophysiology.
Interdisciplinary nature
Integrating molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, etc., for example:
The expression of gene mutation proteins in tumor tissues was detected by immunohistochemical technology (IHC) (pathology), and at the same time, molecular pathophysiology was used to analyze how mutations lead to abnormal cell signaling pathways (pathophysiology).
