I. Professional Positioning and Disciplinary Connotation

Applied physics is an interdisciplinary subject that takes the fundamental theories of physics as its core and focuses on technology transformation and engineering applications. It differs from pure theoretical physics and places more emphasis on applying the principles of quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, etc. to practical problems, such as semiconductor device design, laser technology, and new energy development. Its essence is to build a bridge between "physical theory - technological innovation - industrial application", such as developing chip materials through solid-state physics principles, or designing optical fiber communication systems by applying optical principles.

Ii. Core Knowledge System and Curriculum Design

1. Knowledge module division

Basic theory of physics

It covers classical mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics (studying the behavior of microscopic particles), statistical mechanics (microscopic explanations of macroscopic physical phenomena), etc., and serves as the theoretical foundation for all applications.

Applied Technology Direction

This includes semiconductor physics (the core theory of chip manufacturing), optoelectronics (laser and photoelectric signal conversion), materials physics (performance regulation of functional materials), nuclear physics applications (such as medical imaging, nuclear energy utilization), etc.

Engineering and Experimental Capabilities

Emphasis is placed on experimental design (such as low-temperature physics experiments), data analysis (processing physical signals using MATLAB/Python), and engineering modeling (such as ANSYS simulation of material stress).

All Chinese and other foreign students (non-Chinese citizens) who have a high school diploma or equivalent educational attainment, are at least 18 years old but no more than 25 years old, have good conduct, no criminal record, and are in good physical and mental health are eligible to apply for Jinan University.

2. [Passport] The student's own passport (if currently in China, the most recent valid Chinese visa page and entry and exit record stamp must also be provided).

3. [Graduation Certificate] and [Transcript] (Note ①, ②)

Graduation certificates or academic qualifications of high school or above, transcripts of each academic year issued by the graduating high school, and transcripts of internationally recognized standardized tests (if available, provide such as SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB, etc.).

4. [Language Proficiency Proof] HSK or IELTS, TOEFL score certificates, etc. (The scores are valid within two years).

5. [Personal Statement] Self-introduction, past study experience and study plan in China.

6. [Recommendation Letter] One letter, which can be recommended by our overseas admissions office, local overseas Chinese communities, well-known figures in the overseas Chinese community, or the high school where the student graduated.

7. [Physical Examination Report] If you are applying for a medical-related program at our school, you also need to provide a physical examination report within the last six months. The template for the physical examination report is attached as the "Physical Examination Form".

8. The date of issuance of the "Certificate of No Criminal Record" should be within six months before the registration date.

9. [Other Materials] According to the "Notice of the Ministry of Education on Regulating the Relevant Work of Accepting International Students in Our Higher Education Institutions" (Jiaowai Han [2020] No. 12),

② Proof of the applicant's acquisition of foreign nationality; ③ The applicant's entry and exit records for the past four years (up to April 30, 2025).

(2) For applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth abroad, if one or both of their parents are Chinese citizens, they need to provide ① proof that the applicant acquired foreign nationality at birth; ② Proof of permanent residence of the applicant's parents (Chinese citizens) in a foreign country before birth; ③ The applicant's entry and exit records for the past four years (up to April 30, 2025).
