I. Disciplinary Positioning and Core Connotations

Environmental design is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates architecture, landscape architecture, ergonomics, aesthetics and ecological theory, with the interaction relationship of "human - space - environment" as the core of research. Its scope covers from micro indoor Spaces (such as smart home scene design) to macro urban environments (such as sponge city planning), from physical Spaces (such as the restoration of the Forbidden City courtyard) to virtual scenes (such as the construction of metaverse exhibition halls), aiming to achieve the unity of functional practicality, aesthetic value and sustainability through the integration of spatial forms, material technologies and ecological strategies.

Ii. Training Objectives and Competency Matrix

Goal-oriented: Cultivate compound design talents with spatial narrative ability, technical integration ability and innovative thinking, who can undertake core functions such as planning, design and management in scenarios such as architectural design institutes, real estate enterprises, cultural and tourism institutions, and technology companies.

Capability system:

Theoretical foundation: Master environmental behavior science (such as the influence of shopping mall circulation on consumer psychology), design history and theory (such as the application of Le Corbusier's "Five Points of New Architecture" in modern Spaces), and ecological design principles (rain gardens, vertical greening technology);

Practical skills: CAD construction drawing drawing, SketchUp spatial modeling, model making (such as wooden mortise and tenon structure models), material and process selection (such as the modern combination of rammed earth walls and glass);

Cutting-edge capabilities: Application of BIM technology (collaborative design throughout the entire building life cycle), parametric design (such as the fluid form generation logic of Zaha Hadid Architects), VR spatial interaction design (development of virtual model room roaming system).

(1) Non-Chinese citizens who abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government, are physically and mentally healthy, and hold valid ordinary passports of foreign countries; (II) Educational qualifications and age requirements for applicants

Undergraduate students: High school graduation or equivalent is required, with an age range of 18 to 30 years old (as of September 1, 2025).

2. Master's degree candidates: Must hold a bachelor's degree and be no older than 45 years old (as of September 1, 2025).

3. Doctoral candidates: Must hold a master's degree and be no older than 50 years old (as of September 1, 2025).

4. Preparatory students and visiting students (one-year program) : Age should not exceed 50 years old (as of September 1, 2025). (III) Language Proficiency Requirements:

All undergraduate, master's and doctoral students in our university are mainly taught in Chinese. Applicants' Chinese proficiency must reach level 4 of the International Chinese Proficiency Standard (hereinafter referred to as HSK), and the validity period is within two years. Applicants whose previous academic stage was taught in Chinese can be exempted from submitting the HSK Level 4 certificate, but they must provide proof that Chinese was the medium of instruction.

2. Doctoral students can choose to be taught in English (except for the major of Ship and Ocean Engineering). Applicants for programs taught in English are required to provide an English proficiency certificate. Applicants whose official language is English are exempt from the English proficiency certificate. Other applicants are required to achieve a TOEFL score of 80 or above, an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, or provide a certificate of equivalent English proficiency.

For majors where Chinese is the medium of instruction, students' Chinese proficiency must reach the HSK Level 5 standard upon graduation. For majors where English is the teaching language, undergraduate students are required to have a Chinese proficiency level of HSK Level 4 upon graduation, while master's and doctoral students are required to have a Chinese proficiency level of HSK Level 3 upon graduation.

(4) Economic guarantee requirements

Applicants are required to submit the "Financial Guarantee Letter for International Students of Jimei University", providing a guarantee proof sufficient to cover the tuition fees, accommodation fees, and living expenses for studying in China. At the same time, submit the work certificate and a copy of the passport of the financial guarantor.
