Professional Overview: Foreign Languages and Literatures belong to the discipline of humanities and social sciences, covering the study of foreign linguistics and foreign literature. It is the product of the exchange and cultural interaction between Chinese and foreign civilizations. Its research subjects include foreign language studies, foreign literature studies, translation studies, country and region studies, comparative literature and cross-cultural studies.

Training Objectives: Based on solid foreign language skills and literary and cultural cultivation, students will be trained to have the ability to comprehensively read foreign languages, promote the mutual learning of Chinese and Western cultures, enhance their critical thinking and appreciation skills, and strengthen their awareness of international expression of Chinese culture and wisdom.

Main Courses: Include basic corresponding languages, advanced corresponding languages, selected readings of newspapers and periodicals, audio-visual materials, oral communication, corresponding language writing, translation theory and practice, language theory, introduction to linguistics, selected literary histories and literary works of major corresponding countries, and the national conditions of major corresponding countries.

Secondary Disciplines: There are 11 secondary discipline specialties, namely English Language and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, German Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, Indian Language and Literature, Spanish Language and Literature, Arabic Language and Literature, European Language and Literature, Asian and African Language and Literature, and Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.

Employment Directions: Graduates will mainly work in foreign affairs, trade, culture, publishing and printing, education, research, tourism and other departments, engaging in translation, research, teaching, and management.

2. Requirements for the applicant's educational background and age: 

Those who are pursuing a bachelor's degree must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25. 

(2) Those who are pursuing a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35. 

(3) Those pursuing a doctoral degree must hold a master's degree and be under the age of 40. 

(4) Those pursuing non-degree education courses should be under the age of 45. 

3. Not a recipient of any other scholarships. 

4. Language proficiency requirements: IELTS >= 6.0, TOEFL > 80, MELAB >= 10

On the application system of our university, applicants must fill in information in Chinese or English and submit application materials online.

1. Valid Ordinary Passport.

If the applicant is in China, a valid residence permit is also required.

2. The highest degree certificate. Graduating students can provide a pre-graduation letter as a substitute, and have to bring the original certificate when they come to China.

4. "Physical Examination Record for Foreigners"(Attachment 3).

Applicants should strictly follow the items required in the "Physical Examination Records for Foreigners" and fill them out in Chinese or English. The “Physical Examination Record for Foreigners” missing pages or without a photo or a cross-page seal on it, or without a signature of physician or seal from hospital is invalid. Whereas the inspection results are valid in 6 months, applicants are requested to determine the time of their medical examination accordingly.

5. Valid non-criminal record certificate within 6 months. If the applicant is already in China, she/he can only provide performance letter or Non-objection certificate from current university.

6. Proof of Language Proficiency.

7. Study Plan for Bachelor or Research Plan for Master and PhD.

8. Two recommendation letters signed by (associate) professors (Undergraduate students are exempt).

9. Conditional acceptance letter (It’s not a mandatory but a preferred file, with which students will be admitted in priority).

10. Others preferred: academic achievements (important), certificates of sports or cultural activity.

11. Students under 18 years old should upload Letter of Authorization.(Attachment 4)
