Professional Overview

Geological engineering focuses on the study of geological bodies such as rocks, soils, and groundwater on the Earth's surface. It primarily explores the structure, properties, and evolution patterns of these geological bodies, as well as how to utilize geological knowledge to avoid risks and optimize designs in engineering projects (such as mineral resource development, water conservancy projects, transportation projects, and geological disaster prevention and control). It is both an extension of geology in the field of engineering and a "geological safety guarantee" discipline for engineering construction.

Training Objectives

The program aims to cultivate comprehensive engineering professionals with a solid foundation in geology, engineering mechanics, and hydrogeology, who possess professional skills in geological surveying, engineering design, geological hazard assessment and control, and can engage in surveying, design, construction, management, and research in fields such as geological resource development, civil engineering, and environmental engineering. Students are required to have both theoretical analysis skills and field practice abilities, and to focus on solving geological problems in actual engineering projects.

Main Courses

Basic Courses: Introduction to Geology, Mineralogy and Petrology, Structural Geology, Geomorphology, Engineering Mechanics, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Hydrogeology, etc.

Specialized Courses: Geological Surveying Techniques and Methods, Engineering Geology, Geological Hazard Prevention and Control Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering Design, Mineral Resource Development Technology, Geophysical Exploration, Remote Sensing Technology and Application, Geological Engineering Numerical Simulation, etc.

Practical Courses: Field Geology Practice (such as regional geological mapping, geological profile measurement), Engineering Survey Practice, Geological Hazard Investigation Practice, etc., emphasizing the combination of theory and field practice.

2. Requirements for the applicant's educational background and age: 

Those who are pursuing a bachelor's degree must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25. 

(2) Those who are pursuing a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35. 

(3) Those pursuing a doctoral degree must hold a master's degree and be under the age of 40. 

(4) Those pursuing non-degree education courses should be under the age of 45. 

3. Not a recipient of any other scholarships. 

4. Language proficiency requirements: IELTS >= 6.0, TOEFL > 80, MELAB >= 10

On the application system of our university, applicants must fill in information in Chinese or English and submit application materials online.

1. Valid Ordinary Passport.

If the applicant is in China, a valid residence permit is also required.

2. The highest degree certificate. Graduating students can provide a pre-graduation letter as a substitute, and have to bring the original certificate when they come to China.

3. Transcripts.

4. "Physical Examination Record for Foreigners"(Attachment 3).

Applicants should strictly follow the items required in the "Physical Examination Records for Foreigners" and fill them out in Chinese or English. The “Physical Examination Record for Foreigners” missing pages or without a photo or a cross-page seal on it, or without a signature of physician or seal from hospital is invalid. Whereas the inspection results are valid in 6 months, applicants are requested to determine the time of their medical examination accordingly.

5. Valid non-criminal record certificate within 6 months. If the applicant is already in China, she/he can only provide performance letter or Non-objection certificate from current university.

6. Proof of Language Proficiency.

7. Study Plan for Bachelor or Research Plan for Master and PhD.

8. Two recommendation letters signed by (associate) professors (Undergraduate students are exempt).

9. Conditional acceptance letter (It’s not a mandatory but a preferred file, with which students will be admitted in priority).

10. Others preferred: academic achievements (important), certificates of sports or cultural activity.

11. Students under 18 years old should upload Letter of Authorization.(Attachment 4)
