The research scope of environmental science is extensive, ranging from microscopic pollutants to macroscopic ecosystems, and mainly includes:
Environmental Chemistry: Studies the sources, migration, transformation and fate of chemical substances in the environment, such as analyzing the forms of heavy metals (like lead and cadmium) in soil and their toxicity to plants, or tracking the degradation pathways of pesticide residues in water bodies.
Environmental Biology: Explores the interaction between organisms and polluted environments, including the toxic mechanisms of pollutants on organisms (such as the damage of formaldehyde to human cells), the purification effect of organisms on pollutants (such as using wetland plants to absorb nitrogen and phosphorus in water), and the response of ecosystems to environmental changes (such as the impact of climate change on forest communities).
Environmental Physics: Focuses on physical phenomena in the environment and pollution control, such as the propagation laws of noise pollution, the impact of electromagnetic radiation on the human body, or predicting the diffusion range of smog through atmospheric diffusion models.
Environmental Ecology: Studies the structure and function of ecosystems, as well as the disruption and restoration of ecological balance caused by human activities, such as evaluating the impact of land reclamation in lakes on wetland ecosystems, or designing ecological restoration plans for returning farmland to forests.
Environmental Management and Policy: Solves environmental problems from a social science perspective, including the formulation of environmental regulations (such as the implementation details of the "Environmental Protection Law"), environmental impact assessment (such as the potential risk assessment of construction projects to the surrounding environment), and sustainable development strategic planning, etc.
