Why Study in SUMHS

2022/10/13
Founded in 2004, the School of International Education takes full advantage of Shanghai’s international and diversified economic context, and has carried out various forms of international exchanges and cooperation in the face of shortage of international-minded medical nursing talents. After decades of development, SUMHS has established a wide range of cooperative relationships in the field of health and medical education with universities in more than 10 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania. Learning from foreign advanced teaching concepts and teaching methods, teaching materials and teaching equipment, the school has accumulated rich management experience in international medical education, and made great achievements in cooperative education, bilingual teacher training, textbook development, and inter school teacher-student exchange.
In the past decade, the non-degree-seeking international students come from the United States, Japan, Norway, the Netherlands, Finland and Denmark, and the degree-seeking students mainly come from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Laos, Thailand, Japan and other Asian countries. In 2019, there were total 234 degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking international students in our university, accounting for 1.99% of the total, respectively studying in clinical medicine, pharmacy, nursing sciences, medical inspection, rehabilitation physical therapy, health care and management, and other disciplines. In 2020, due to the worldwide pandemic impact, the number of international students for degree and non-degree studies reduced significantly. 2021 is the first year of China's 14th five year plan. International student education will focus on improving quality and efficiency, and developing international education with a more open attitude.
