Opening Ceremony for International Freshmen 2020 & The 5th International Cultural Festival of WZU Begins

In the afternoon of October 29th, Opening Ceremony for International Freshmen 2020 & The 5th International Cultural Festival of WZU begins in the Report Hall 203 of Building 3 in the North Campus. More than 120 international students of undergraduate, postgraduate and language program from 40 countries online and offline were attended. Vice president Qian Qiang,leaders of school departments and relevant colleges,foreign affairs counselors, head teachers,staff and students of College of International Education representatives were also attended.


First, Vice president Qian Qiang gave a brief introduction of Wenzhou and WZU's history, features and internationalization. He said this year is an unusual year, we are struck hard by COVID-19, we shall all together try to fight against it. He encouraged international students to cherish their study time in WZU, learn to embrace different cultures around them, and become an ambitious professional communicator for China and other countries. Second, teacher representative Zhang Minglu gave a speech to new international students. She suggested students to look at things from different points of view and to help each other with gratitude. She hoped all students would make progress for the world and yourselves. Third, our excellent alumni ADOFO MICHAEL ADJEI shared his thoughts with us all. He was a postgraduate majored in Computer Science in WZU, and he said he was honored to work here and hoped all new students could make full use of the study resources offered by WZU to dig out their potentials.

 

Speeches from student representatives were welcomed by new students with applause. THIPANA MOPE from Lesotho is a chemical engineering and technology of 2018. She used fluent Chinese to introduce her study and living experience in WZU. She said that WZU has offered rich teaching and learning resource for international students and hoped them fight for a better future by studying hard. Turkmenistan freshmen GYLYCHLYYEV YBRAYYM,who has got Chinese Government Scholarship, and freshmen Huang Rongxin, who was in Thailand, shared their Chinese learning experiences and thoughts on Wenzhou through recorded video. They said that they fell in love with the city of Wenzhou and WZU while taking Chinese language online.




Then, vice president Qian Qiang and dean of College of International Education Ye Miao bestowed school badge、souvenir and a set of Chinese Learning books. All freshmen presented put on the school badges which meant that they became a member of WZU from then on.



At last but not the least, OKORIE IVY ECHEM and EJUKWU IKECHUKWU from Nigeria gave us a happy song and sent us into the opening ceremony of the 5th International Culture Week. In this international culture week we are going to have a series of culture activities, such as International International Food Festival, 2020 4th International Students’ Chinese Skills Competition (Preliminary), Beautiful Zhejiang, Short video competition and so on.
