About QISS
2015/05/21Qingdao No. 1 International School of Shandong Province (QISS) was founded by Mayor Xia on August 5, 2007. The school opened its doors on August 16, 2007 to students in grades preK-12. Approximately 200 students from over 25 countries are currently enrolled.
The school’s official name indicates the importance the Qingdao Municipal Government assigns to QISS and its vision to develop it into a premier, western-style international school that will enhance the city’s overall investment climate.
QISS is accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and is a member of ACAMIS (Association of Chinese and Mongolian International Schools).
After briefly being housed in the international wing of the prestigious Number Two Middle School, QISS became the cornerstone of the brand-new Qingdao City Construction and Investment Group’s international education park located in Laoshan District of Qingdao.
The school began the 2010-2011 year at the new campus, and students, staff, and families alike have enjoyed its state of the art facilities ever since.
QISS has its roots in an older entity known as QIS that was established in August 1998. As ownership changed hands, the school retained the vast majority of the faculty and administration and its WASC accreditation.
Equally important was the school’s continued dedication to the same mission—to provide a high quality and secular English-based educational program that develops the core character traits of: vitality, courage, sensitivity, compassion, and intelligence.
