BISTU is a key school supported by Beijing Municipality with a relatively complete set of academic disciplines focusing on engineering coordinated development of engineering, management, science, economics, liberal arts, and law studies. 

With a history of 85 years dated back to 1937, BISTU has been always rooted in China and has been growing along with development of the country, development of national machinery industry and computer science. Distinctive features of the University thus were formed in respect of information technology industries. “Diligence in learning and honor for life”---the University Motto ---has been rooted here and carried forward to all corners of the world. 

The University has been strengthening “construction of five environments”, i.e., spatial environment, physical environment, learning environment, governance environment, and emotional environment, constantly optimizing top design, and constantly facilitating reform of internal governance system.  

The University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Students has been officially approved as a sub-park for innovation and entrepreneurship on-campus. BISTU graduates are well known for their strong competitive edge, good starting salary and good reputation among employers of all industries. 

Scientific innovation and academic research at BISTU are gaining momentum.  The recent three years have seen BISTU winning 280 invention patents and 9 awards of provincial level or higher.  

BISTU continues to boost globalization of education. Having established collaborative links with over one hundred institutions around the world, the University has set up joint cultivation models on undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels. The Sino-US joint master program in electronic information with Oakland University was officially approved by Ministry of Education. A number of world famous scholars and experts have been appointed members of University Academic Committee or honorary professors. 

Following the development trends of the information era, upholding the banner of political construction, guided by “double first-rate” construction, and emphasizing on the goal of education of applied learning, the University has made scientific plans for the new development phase, implemented new ideas and principles for development, and actively integrated in new development pattern of higher education. With constant efforts in quality development, featured development, and diversified development, BISTU is now striding towards its goal of building a high level university with distinctive features in information technology.
